Some are soluble (NaCl), some are insoluble (AgCl).
Warm with sodium hydroxide soln. NH4Cl gives strong smell of ammonia. Gas is alkaline. No result with NaCl NH4Cl + NaOH ---> NaCl + H2O + NH3

NH3 acts as a polar solvent and separates the NH4+ and Cl- ions. These mobile ions remain dissolved in liq NH3.
