This is a hard question... to answer but one quick answer would be that in India farming is considered a demeaning job for those with little or no education. Farmers looked down upon...
Or the answer could be that in India they still follow the Hindu castle system... where family members are stuck in the position for life... meaning if you are born in poverty you are expected to live your whole life in poverty... it isn't until you are recarnated can you hope for a better life..
