The Berlin Wall was built in 1952, because the leader of the Soviet Union lived in Eastern Berlin, and is Mother in Law lived in Western Berlin. You probably can already see where this is going, so there were a number of things that this mother in law did, that were absolutely annoying like: Nagging, she's really good at that, and not calling before dropping by for a surprise visit. So he came up with a genius plan to some way separate him and his wife from the witch. So he constructed all of his hard working minions to built a large, massive wall, even larger than her fat ego. After many long hard days in about a week, the wall finally came to a conclusion just like this story, the mother in law complained about it, but oh well, her voice doesn't travel that far past the thick concrete wall. :) and that was the end of the headaches.

The Wall wasn't built until 1961. The GDR began building it 13 August 1961. It separated the East from the West and was erected to prevent citizens of Eastern Germany from escaping.

It was built in August 1961, by the East German government, with the direct approval of the Soviet Union. It was built, because hundreds of thousands of people, many with significant skills, were immigrating to West Berlin as well as West Germany over the years. This"brain drain", was extremely serious by 1961, and they decided to build the wall.
