External fertilization means that it takes place outside of the body, which also means the eggs and sperm are exposed to a lot more danger, and that the chances of a successful fertilization are lower.

Because of this, the amounts produced are much higher to give a reasonable chance that there will be offspring.

The types of creatures that lay hundreds of eggs instead of two or three at a time do so because they don't plan to be around to raise the babies, and having many hatch at one time increases the chances of their young to survive to adulthood.

For example for fish, frogs and corals they release many eggs to ensure survival of that particular species as the majority will not survive or not be fertilised.

Internal fertilization is like animals having sex....the egg is fertilized on the inside. External is when the egg is fertilized on the outside (like when frogs lay eggs and they need to be fertilized before they can hatch).

Is number of eggs prodced by oviparous and young ones produced by viviparous same?

oviparous animals live in more harsh environment and thus lay large number of eggs compared to viviparous animals. this high multiplication ensures that few of the eggs get fertilized (external fertilization) and develop into young once.

Are jellyfish external or internal fertilization?

External. In most cases, adults release sperm and eggs into the surrounding water, where the (unprotected) eggs are fertilized and mature into new organisms.

External, because they lay eggs.

Why animals that reproduce by external fertilization produce more eggs then animals that are internal?

Vertebrates that use internal fertilization tend to produce fewer eggs because almost all of their eggs are fertilized. With animals that use external fertilization, a number of eggs are never fertilized. With some animals like oysters, the males release a tremendous amount of sperm and the females release a tremendous number of eggs, but it is hit or miss if n egg will be fertilized as it floats along. A woman only needs to produce one egg to get pregnant. She can look after that baby for a few years before she gets pregnant again. just as many oysters as children are likely to survive to adulthood.

Do fish use external reproduction or internal reproduction?

The salmon reproduces externally. The female salmon will lay the eggs and then the males will shoot their semen on top of the eggs to fertilize them.
