their bones are hollow to make them lighter, and more legible for flight. if they had solid bones they wouldn't be able to fly as fast, high or as manouvaroble as they are now. their bones are also linked to the lungs, scientific research shows that if a birds windpipe is blocked but a hole in one of its bones is made then it will be able to breath quite normally

only birds that fly have hallow bones they have hallow bone so they can fly True, but there are exceptions to this- some 'table birds' (i.e. ducks, geese, game birds etc.) have solid bones, but they fly also. Flightless Birds usually have solid bones, because they don't need to have body-frames that are as light as possible- the chicken, for example.

They are not hollow like a straw, but they do have larger spaces in them than other animals and humans. Something like a sponge.

They are not hollow like straws but have many open spaces in them. Something like Swiss cheese but on a much smaller scale. This make them light enough to fly.
