Boys and girls can be treated alike by not assuming they have shortcomings due to their gender.
It is often assumed that girls are better at art, reading, cooking, and a few other sets of skills. It is also assumed that males are better at math, sciences, sports, and mechanics. However, those are social stereotypes, and both genders are capable of learning a variety of subjects.
It is also sometimes assumed that girls cannot be logical and boys cannot be emotional. However, that is more a result of social conditioning. If they were both treated alike, there would be balance there as well.

I think that if someone asked me that question I would have to think about it for a while, but now that I think about society sometimes does treat boys and girls differently from each other. For example sports! Most girls don't play football they play sports like Netball, volleyball, gymnastics, dance, and etc. Since they play sports like that they're considered girly, but girls aren't mostly girly. On the other hand boys play sports like football, soccer, Basketball, and etc. Boys are known to be the man of the house looking out for his little siblings. While girls babysit or cook dinner. So, basically yes, sometimes society treats girls differently from girls. We may not like it, but that's how it is sometimes and we have to deal with it.
