One of the ways heat flows from the atmosphere to the air is through conduction. Convection is another, and radiation is yet another. Convection is how heat is transferred from earth's hot interior to the mantle. Without these ways of transferring heat, life on earth could not exist.

convection can be in the form of air which are called the global winds or in the oceans which create deep ocean currents. convection is the rising and falling of a substance due to density. if the substance- for example water, the warm water is less dense so it rises to the top, the cooler water is more dense so it falls to the bottom creating the motition refered to as convection

  1. Radiation: The sun's rays of light and heat warm the surface of the earth.
  2. Conduction: Warmth spreads from one part of the earth's surface to another.
  3. Convection: Warm air rises from the surface of the earth (infrared light).
  4. Conduction: This heat is absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. They become warm and they warm other neighbouring gases (conduction), and even the earth's surface again (radiation).
