Due to hunting for food and pelt, as well as hunting for sport; certain deer like the black musk deer, key deer and caribou (a species of deer) are endangered.
Other reasons including being hit by cars and in some cases being driven from their homes and starving in new surroundings have driven species like the key deer to just 300-800 members left.
The caribou or reindeer, as a species, is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
Although some races are in some trouble, and at least one has gone extinct, the caribou as a species remains fairly numerous and not listed as an endangered species.
Because deer are a very destructive animal they tear up stuff, and that's why deer are meant to be in the wood or on a deer farm.
It is the same for all wild animal, when they have plenty of food, water and cover they are not a problem, they will stay in a small area. But when they do not have enough food or water they will travel long distances to find it. When this happens they eat what is easy to get. Like for instance, farm crops, flowers at your home etc... Also in their search for food they will sometime frequent the road ways. During the winter months the road ways are planted to prevent erosion and they prevent hazards to automobiles.
the elks or deers are protected because there are not a lot of them left in the wild because of hunters and because there wood lands or forest are being cut down to build houses. By: Shane Wave
Deer are a part of a natural habitat, eating plants that might get overgrown in their habitat and offering themselves up as food sources for the predators that lurk in their habitat, such as bobcat, cougar, wolf, coyote or bear. Without deer a natural habitat would suffer.

It is important to know the birth cycle of many animals. Young deer are generally born during the spring or summer time in Virginia.
The deer brothers and sisters would sacrifice their lives so that the Native Peoples could feed their families and clothe themselves. Tallow was made from the fat. Antlers were saved to make ceremonial headdresses. Bones were used as needles for sewing, once carved down. The Native Peoples were grateful.
The important foods were three sisters (corn, beans and squash) deer, rabbits, birds (ducks and goose).
yeaaa every animal is important to the circle of life
Deer feed on hundreds of plants, but they are picky eaters. If a food does not taste just right, a deer will spit it out, along with any saliva that came in contact with it. This selectivity is important since deer will try to eat any foliage in an area. Deer have long tongues that contain many taste buds.
