Why elements are place in a group?

Elements with similar electron configurations are placed in the same group.

What causes the propertiesof elements in a group to be simalar?

Same number of valence electrons cause same properties. The elements with same properties are grouped together. For example- the alkali metals are placed in group-1

How did Mendeleev discover a pattern of repeating properties in elements?

Mendleef arranged the elements in the increasing order of their atomic masses due to which elements having same properties were placed in the same group and there were few exceptions.

What is special about the elements in the same group?

elements are in the same group since they react similarly to other elements in that group.

What elements occupy the same group in the periodic group?

elements that share the same colum

Are k and calcium in the same family in the periodic table of elements?

K refers to potassium. it is placed in alkali metal family i.e. group 1. Calcium is placed in alkaline earth family i.e group-2.

Elements in a group have-?

Elements in group have same number of valence electrons. They also have same chemical properties.

Do fluorine and chlorine have the same chemical properties?

No. No two elements have the same chemical properties. However, the chemical properties of fluorine and chlorine are similar. Since they are similar, they are placed in the same group, group 17, on the periodic table.

Do the element Na and K belong to the same period or the same group?

The elements K and Na belong to the same group i.e. 1 of the periodic table. However they are separately placed in 4th and 3rd periods respectively.

What do all the same elements have in a group in common?

Same elements of group have same valency. They possess same chemical behaviour.

What is similar when elements have the same group?

Elements in the same group have similar physical and chemical properties.

Do elements in the same group have similar atomic numbers?

No. Elements in the same group have same number of valence electrons.
