Fraternities and sororities are have the main purposes of socialization, networking and donating some of their resources and time to philanthropies. The social aspect comes from social mixers between the campus Greek groups as well as open house periods to recruit new members, also known as "The Rush." Networking allows Greek alumni to maintain business and professionals throughout their alumni. Their is also the concept of lifelong camaraderie forged through being in the Greek system. Public service projects comprise their philanthropic commitments. That being said, membership in Greek organizations comes at a financial cost of membership, or dues, and is socially selective rather than inclusive to all.

Even if they have a good family at home sometimes they need someone like themselves to help them and sometimes a fraternity can give that to them and most of the time they just want to go out and have a good time.
