This is dependant on the subject matter. Normally guys are more competetive when it comes to sports and games. Women are normally more competetive when it comes to boys and their looks. Girls normally will fight over guys more then guys fight over girls. Not physically but in a more subtle way. For example they might attempt to take a man's attention from another girl if she is interested in him. Do understand that this is a broad answer and does not apply to all people. Not all women and men are competetive.

It comes down to four things in my opinion... To have one is good. To have two increases your chances and so forth. Having any combination of the four will usually do it for you. And they are... 1. Good looks 2. Power (Money and or a social position or job with authority) 3. Smarts 4. Being funny... women will say good sense of humor, but I mean being out right funny.

Why do guys think its ok to hit women?
Many guys don't think so, at least not that it's ok to seriously use violence against women. It's rare that guys think you musn't hit a woman at all however, most guys see a teasing bop as ok or for example a light thud on the head with a book. They think so because it's just a normal and harmless way of teasing.
