Probably air in the system.
Soft brakes are caused by moisture or air in the brake lines. This reduces the pressure in side the system and greatly reduces its stopping power.
Spongy or soft brake pedal usually means there is air trapped in the system. Bleed the brakes starting at the RR then LR > RF and ending at the LF.
It could be as simple as a soft right front tire, check the air pressure in all the tires.

Soft pedal is caused by air in the system. Bleed the brakes starting at RR, then LR, RF, and ending at LF.
On the 2000 the knob is on a spline on the shift lever. You'll either have to cut it off, or if you want to reuse it take out the lever by unscrewing the nut under the shaft, place the shaft in a vise and pound off the knob with a soft hammer.
