Why are plants important to the survial of all other organisms?

All living organisms require energy. Plants capture energy from
the sun, through photosynthesis. Plants are eaten by organisms, who
may, themselves be eaten. This is a simple view of the food chain
which transmits solar energy to all organisms. Without plants to
capture the sun's energy, the whole chain would collapse.
