Normally Red wine is made with red grapes, and White wine with white (greenish) grapes. Red wine get its color from the red skin being in the mix that get squeezed (with seeds and all), and left weeks fermenting. White wine is fermented without the skin and seeds (these are filtered out before starting the fermentation process). It is, though, possible to make white wine out of red grapes by removing the red skin prior to fermenting. This type of wine is called 'blanc de noirs' (white from black).

Wine is made from grapes (red or white). The juice in the grapes is actually clear - not red/white. The color comes from the skins of the grapes.

For white wine, the juice is extracted, separated from the skins and 'more or less' fermented, then bottled.

For red wine, the juice is kept in contact with the red skins which basically 'stains' the wine red. The longer the contact with the skins, the more color that is extracted.

White Zinfandel is actually made from red grapes, but it isn't left in contact with the skins long enough to make the wine more than a pink hue.

Production of red wine is slightly different than the process of making white wine. Red wine is fermented at warmer temperatures than white wine. For red wine production, the skins are fermented with the crushed juice

Many people think that white wine is produced with green grapes, and red wine with ripe grapes, actually has to do with the type of grape and not with its degree of ripeness. White wine is prepared with light grapes and red with darker grapes.

And for health, which one is better? Red wine has a greater amount of polyphenols than white. And it is precisely this compound that makes wine a healthy drink, it helps to eliminate toxins present in fatty foods, such as red meat. MDA (3,4-methylenedioxyanphetamine) is a dangerous substance, it is the product of the oxidation of unsaturated fats present in meat, the accumulation in the body can cause cancer. As already said, wine is rich in polyphenols, since these organic compounds are present in the stomach, completely remove free radicals, MDA and other harmful substances.
