Because they are not aproprite. People can use so many other possible words people can say. To swear just shows how ignorant people can be and how un educated they are. You can swear under the privecy of your own home and or around your friends and family if it is aproprite or no big deal for them. But in most cases you should be cirdious and not do it in public or so loud that everyone can here you.

This could be true, yet I find that it is just a word. We could have taken the word bread, for example, and said that it was a swear. The way we use it, our tone of voice is what makes it bad, I find. The manner in which we speak does not represent our level of education. I swear occasionally and I get really good grades... As well, there are many words not used in normal conversation: for example there is bamboozle. Don't know how many times you've heard that.

Yes, swearing is bad. Swearing is disrespectful to the people who can hear you. Are all of the people within hearing range of your words worthy of your disrespect? Many people who swear will quickly apologize but for most of us, those apologies are hollow and meaningless. You can't take back the disrespect so easily.

Swearing is a bad habit that can be improved or even overcome. Swearing is a sign that you care about how you feel more than you care about those around you. Swear words are specifically designed to hurt or offend others. Swearing never accomplishes anything to mitigate a situation for the user. Swearing is the last resort of someone who has nothing else to offer.

Swearing is simply using words which in themselves are considered unacceptable, profane, blasphemous, indecent, or otherwise offensive to one's audience.

You can use any kind of language you like if you are alone and nobody can hear you.

Words by themselves aren't bad; what can be bad is the effect words have on those you say them to or in front of.

If you are speaking to, or conversing among, people who speak in a similar way to you, then they won't be offended by whatever you say, unless you are personally and deliberately offensive to one or more of them.

But if you are with people who you are aware, or might reasonably assume, don't normally speak that way, then they could be offended if you use vulgar language.

Where complete strangers are involved, you can still be pretty sure of how you should speak. You wouldn't walk into a job interview and immediately begin swearing, for example.

It's commonsense to assume you know the difference between those people you can swear in front of and those you can't, and while the first group won't be offended if you don't swear, the second group certainly will be offended if you do. In the same way, you wouldn't play or sing music containing offensive lyrics in front of people you know would be offended by it.

It's really all about good manners. A person who's never used a swearword in their life and who complains about others who do swear, might still make a habit of saying things knowing that what they say will make another person feel bad. This isn't just bad manners, it's deliberate cruelty, and much worse than swearing.

Let your own sense of good manners guide you. Don't cause offence if you can help it, either by the sort of words you use, or by the way you use words.

If you are around 0-12 years old from my opinion I think swearing is very unacceptable and a bad use of any language. But if you are 13+ then well it still is very bad but most people around you such as your friends might swear and you will get in the habit of it.

Swear words become swear words because they offend the general public's sensibilities. Some words which are now swear words were commonplace expressions centuries ago. A lot of this has to do with people's pretentions to gentility - they don't like to hear what they might describe as 'farmyard' language - the words describing bodily functions and reproductive activity. Other words become swear words by being overly associated with offensiveness.

If I were to call you a 'foot' or an 'ear' you might be mystified by what I meant but you would be unlikely to be offended. However were I to call you several other body parts you'd be outraged and I'd be obliged to apologise. -- further -- A lot of the problem with swear words is not the words themselves but the manner in which they are expressed. Extreme vehemence can make almost any word sound offensive or derogatory.
