Because people want everything. People are born all the time, people have things they want, so people buy things. There is never a time when nothing is bought. Something is always being bought

Biology. our genes have econded our biology in such a way that we are egoists. Sicne we are different, our egoistic needs are different, however neither of ours are limited. We cannot do anything about it (save for massive genetic re-engineering, but thats illegal and extremely dangerous/expensive, as in noone has lived after yet). all we can do is nurture our eghoism in such a fashion that our wants are being recognized to be doing good and not wants to steal money.

Because (as a group), the more we have, the more we want. Someone sleeping on the street might only want a warm soft place to sleep, but another person making a six-figure salary might want to be richer so that they can afford to buy a home in Manhattan. There is no point at which most people just stop and say that they have everything that they need and couldn't possibly want anything else.

People don't even know what they want, but they feel empty and want more... meaning, or stuff, or love, or health, or popularity, or whatever it is. There is always something you can do to improve your life, and so there is no end to what people will want.
