When I hear the term "sputter" in conjunction with swimming pool jet it usually indicates "air" returning back to the pool with the water. There are several reasons for this to occur, from low level of pool water causing the pool surface skimmer to draw in air, to, an air intrusion leak at or near the front of the pool pump. Several other possibilities can exist but, bottom line is the "sputter" is generally associated with air in the system.

∙ 15y agoYou are blowing air(bubbles) due to a pipe/Plumbing line leak in that system.Finding the leak is hard as the lines go under ground, perhaps a pro can insert a flex tube inside your existing lines to cure the problem? try to look for any sinking areas around the pool(indicating a water leak under ground), look for wet spots in the yard (puddling water when the pump is on and in the area of the return lines) or if all else fails dig the yard up looking for the culprit leak....last choice, best to give it to a known pool, pro.

∙ 16y agoIt could be decreased flow from a dirty filter. And then again it could be a bit of debris in the orifice of the valve. Kind of remote for that tho.
