Roman Catholic AnswerThe Church does not ordain women because It can't. Only men can be priests. This is something that the Church has received from God, and so has no authority to change.

They can and are. Not all religious organizations do ordain women, but on the other hand, there are numerous houses of worship that gladly do ordain them and place them in a position of head pastor.

Priests are baptized who received the sacrament of holy orders to the priesthood (other levels of holy orders include deacon which is below priest and bishop whihc is above). Once a baptized man receives the sacrament, he gains the mystical power to transubstantiate bread and wine into the body and blood of christ and to forgive sins on behalf of God.

Catholic church teaches that the sacrament doesn't work on women. So a woman who got "ordained" wouldn't gain the mystical powers that baptized men do.

Thus, it is because holy orders do not work on women that women cannot be priests in the Roman Catholic church.

Most Christian denominations who do not accept or allow women to be ordained to the priesthood cite Biblical reasons. There is no mention or evidence of female priesthood in The Bible, and when the Bible does specify who should be ordained, it always implies a man. (for example, 1 Timothy chapter 3 states that Bishops and Deacons must be "the husband of one wife")

Answer

The Catholic Church is a male dominated religious organization. It follows a strict male hierarchy that has ordained there will never be female priests. It adheres to a bible written by men that only includes scriptures authored by men although many other gospels were available at the time that the gospels were chosen for inclusion, notably the Gospel of Mary. It has worked to keep women in a subservient position within the church since the second or third century of the common era although women were instrumental in helping Jesus to spread his message.

There are Christian denominations that have accepted females in leadership roles and there are many churches with female pastors. The Catholic Church is simply not so oriented.

Discrimination is often viewed negatively, but it is something that is also good and important (Depending on what the subject is of course). Discrimination is

  • To make a clear distinction; distinguish: discriminate among the options available.
  • To make sensible decisions; judge wisely.

Some good discrimination includes:

  • Not allowing boys into the girls' washroom.
  • Not allowing a lazy student a passing grade.
  • Allowing an amateur skier to enter the Olympics.
  • etc.
It should be made clear that women are equal to men, but their roles in society and humanity differ. Men have the role of father, transmitter of life, provider, and protector; while women have the role of mother, nurturer, making present things even better. We can see the roles in how our bodies were made: men are made to produce sperm, to transmit; while women receive this sperm and nurture the conceived child.

The ordained priesthood is a matter of transmitting life. He transmits the grace of God, he pours it upon the people.

Also, Jesus was discriminatory. He chose only men to be his apostles, and the priests which preceded them, the Jewish priests were all men.

The priesthood is a gift and not a right that everyone should have. It isn't unfair to give one gift to one person, and give another gift to another person. It is just like how men don't have to right to be women.

Because the Catholic Church was founded by Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, and is guided by the Holy Spirit until the end of the world. It is His Church and we cannot invent doctrine, only maintain and teach what He has given us. Our Blessed Lord only established His priesthood for men. This is rooted in the natural complementary of man and woman. The Church is the Bride of Christ, as such, His priests, who stand in for Him, are the spouses of their individual Churches. This is like asking why men can't be pregnant - same answer: this is the way that God created us, and this is the way He created His Church and His priesthood.

Some of the Pauline Letters (the letters of the Apostle Paul, included in the Bible) discouraged or disallowed the ordination of women, or allowing women to have authority in the church.

What religion doesnt allow priests to marry?

That is mainly the Catholic church, the largest Christian denomination. Other Christian churches do allow their priests or preachers to marry, though.

Can a nondenominational wedding be held at a Catholic church?

Yes but most priests will not allow non-catholic functions in their buildings.

Can the pope be a woman?

No, because the Catholic church has yet to allow women to be ordained as priests (they are only allowed to become nuns), and the Pope is selected from the world's cardinals--who were once priests.

Is there a Liberal Catholic Church denomination which limits its priests and deacons to heterosexual men?

No, there are several churches that tack on the title 'Catholic' to their names but who are not in union with Rome and not true Catholic Churches. Examples: The Old Catholic Church, the American Catholic Church, the American Charismatic Catholic Church, etc. Some allow married clergy and female priests. Your question is not very clear. The Roman Catholic Church limits its clergy to men only but could not be classified as 'liberal' in the way that some of the non-Catholic 'Catholic' denominations listed above cold be.

What is the wife of a pope's title?

There can be no such person as a "wife of the Pope". The Pope must be a Cardinal of the Catholic Church. Cardinals are, for the most part Bishops (with a few priests). All priests and bishops of the Catholic church take a vow of celibacy when they are first ordained and cannot ever marry. Even in the Eastern Rites which allow married priests, the Bishops are only chosen from the celibate priests.

When will the Catholic Church get with the times and allow women to become priests?

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Catholic Church was established by God, it is the Mystical Body of Our Blessed Lord, and His Spouse; it is guided by the Holy Spirit. The last thing that the Catholic Church would ever do would be to "get with the times". God has revealed and the Holy Father has definitively ruled that only men can be priests, it is a physical impossibility to ordain a woman to the priesthood.

What does the Episcopalian religion worship?

The Episcopal Church, also known as the Church of England, or the Anglicans, worship God. They are mostly the same as the Catholic Church. The main difference is that they are not ruled by Rome but by England. Part of the reason for the split from the Catholic Church was over the marriage issue. Catholic priests cannot marry, but Episcopal priests can. In recent years, the Catholic Church has invited the Episcopal Church to merge with them, even offering to allow the Episcopal priests to remain married. Both denominations have been wrought with scandals and divisions in recent years, and Catholics saw such a proposition as a way to help rebuild.

Can an Anglican Catholic priest say Mass at a Roman Catholic Church?

The Anglican Church is not called the Anglican Catholic Church, and the Catholic Church is not formally known as the Roman Catholic Church even though the Vatican is indeed located in Rome. Your question therefore would more accurately read, can an Anglican priest say Mass at a Catholic Church. The answer is, the Catholic religion does not allow Anglican priests to officiate at their rituals. The Anglican Church, despite being extremely similar to the Catholic Church in most respects, is nonetheless regarded by Catholicism as a heretical schism.

Why are priests not allow marry?

In most Christian churches, clergy are allowed to marry. Indeed in some churches there are priests married to each other (e.g. in the Church of England there are many husband and wife clergy families). This includes most Protestant churches and the Orthodox church, where parish priests can be married but monks, bishops and above remain celibate. The largest church with celibate priests is the Roman Catholic church. In this church, it is held that celibacy helps the priest to focus on God and service to the church. However, the issue of celibacy is not a matter of faith or theology, but a vow imposed on the majority of western-rite (Latin) Roman Catholic priests. The major reason for this requirement is to prevent a conflict between family life and service to a priest's parishioners. Contrary to widely held opinion, there are, and always have been, married priests in the Catholic church. Eastern-rite Catholic priests, such as the Maronites, and, more recently, already married Anglican priests who convert to Catholicism and wish to be Catholic priests, continue to serve in the priesthood. One condition of priesthood for married former-Anglican priests is that they may not serve in the role of principal parish priest, in order to conform with the principle of celibacy imposed on the majority of Roman Catholic priests. It is worth remembering that many of the early priests of the church, including the first pope (St Peter) were married.

Do you agree if woman married a priest?

Episcopal priests are allowed to marry; I have no problem with that. Perhaps the Catholic Church could allow some priests to marry--I'm not convinced that it is a bad thing. I don't make these decisions, however.

Speech debate about Catholic priest not allow to marry?

.Catholic AnswerThere is a saying in the Catholic Church, "Rome has spoken, the issue is closed." Thus it is with Latin Rite Priests being allowed to get married, the Holy Father has answered this question in the negative, there is NO debate.

Why should women be Catholic priests?

Some people would say why not. The arguments against are divided into two sections. The first is that Jesus didn't choose any women to be his apostles and so, by example we should have men as priests. Another is that it is tradition - we have never had women priests so why start now? As the question is about Catholic priests (not other Christian traditions) it might be useful to see whether the church is consistent with its handling of other situations - married priests for example. Several of the men Jesus chose to follow him were married. Currently the church will accept married men who, as priests, convert from another church and allow them to continue as priests. The church will not allow an unmarried priest to marry. The basic question here is would God call a woman to be a priest? If it is God's will then how can the church deny it? The difficulty here is who decides whether it is God's will or not and what would be the outcome if things changed? As only men can be priests and the hierarchy of the church is made up of priests the leadership is, by definition, men. So, the decision about who should be priests is made by men. There is always a fear that changes in the church would cause division and weaken the position of the church - however with some countries having a very low Catholic church attending population the power of the church has already been significantly eroded. Some would say that having women priests could even strengthen the church.
