Article Two, Section 4 of the Constitution:

When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present."

... so if a President wanted to remove his/her Vice President, he/she would have to convince the House to impeach the Vice President and the Senate to convict. The President doesn't get to just "fire" the Vice President.

No, but there have been Vice Presidents that have resigned. Spiro Agnew resigned due to a legal problem. There have been VPs that haven't gotten along with the president. John Adams was ignored by Washington and LBJ was ignored by JFK.
