No, not during the term. The vice-president can be impeached by the House and then removed from office after a trial by the Senate.

If a president runs for a second term, he can get a different running mate for his second run, if the nomination convention agrees.

No, the President cannot fire the Vice President. The Vice President can only be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Impeachment charges must be brought by the House of Representatives, and conviction requires a 2/3 majority of the Senate.

The President of the United States and the Vice President of the United States are both elected officials. The President can issue Executive Orders to the House of Representatives that it investigate the Vice President for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors," but the House of Representatives is not legally bound to approve articles of Vice Presidential impeachment, not even when based on investigations that may result from those Executive Orders.

The President, however, never issues such Executive Orders, especially not those seeking articles of Vice Presidential impeachment, because of the very real possibility that the House may approve articles of Presidential impeachment instead. For any issuance of such an Executive Order may end up violating the principle of separation of political powers built into the Constitution.

The only way to remove a Vice President is the same process that would be used to remove a President - impeachment by the House of Representatives followed by conviction on the Articles of Impeachment by the Senate.

Article Two, Section 4 of the Constitution:

"The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other High crimes and Misdemeanors."

Article One, Section 2, Clause 5 of the Constitution:

"The House of Representatives shall chuse [sic]their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment."

Article One, Section 3, Clause 5 of the Constitution:

"The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present."

... so if a President wanted to remove his/her Vice President, he/she would have to convince the House to impeach the Vice President and the Senate to convict. The President doesn't get to just "fire" the Vice President.

No, but there have been Vice Presidents that have resigned. Spiro Agnew resigned due to a legal problem. There have been VPs that haven't gotten along with the president. John Adams was ignored by Washington and LBJ was ignored by JFK.
