He was the last abbot of Glanstonbury. He refused to swear to Henry's act of supremacy in 1539 . During trial he was accused of theft from his church - few details are known.

Richard was publicly murdered near the abbey with two fellow monks probably as a deterrent to others. The monks were dispersed and the property given to local gentry friendly to the Government
