Why did Christopher Columbus colonize the New World?

Christopher Columbus, and all explorers of that day, were terrible navigators. To be honest, he didn't have a clue where he was going.

He was trying to find a quick route to India. That's why Native Americans, and Native Canadians are called "Indians" - he thought he was in India.

So to ask why did he colonize the new world? The answer is he didn't. He did it by accident.
