Fiji became part of the British Empire when Ratu Seru Cakobau who ceeded Fiji to Great Britain after many debates on who is going to pay for the burnt house of Captain Charles Wilkes who happends to be an American. Her Majesty Queen Victoria agreed to pay the debt and accepted Fiji to be ceeded as her own. During her reigning years, Fiji uses, pounds and shillings and the Union Jack as its flag.

When Captain James Cook landed in Fiji. He saw that Fiji is abundant in fruits,vegetables,sandalwood,bech-der-mer,pearls,etc etc that made the British flock to the island nation. Later on, convicts from Australia settled in Fiji in the island of Ovalau looking to start their fortune in minning and fisheries.

Fiji was ceeded to Great Britain by Ratu Sir Cakobau after a fijian man did not pay for his debt to an American businessman that causes anger amongst the British and American. Later on, Queen Victoria agreed to hold FeeJee as her own leaving the Americans look elsewhere. In October 10th 1970, Fiji got Independence from the UK.
