America was late to join because after having just finished the First World War because while many Americans wanted to quickly go to war President Roosevelt didn't want to quickly head into another war after having just finished the First World War. America only joined the war in 1941 after the Japan attack on Pearl Harbor. Then Germany declared war on the US and we joined the Allies.
