∙ 9y agoAs Allied troops began breaking German lines and the tides of the war turned, Hitler, both because of the pressure of leadership and the deterioration of his mind under syphilis, felt he had failed the German people. As a soldier, he preferred death over captivity, and chose to commit suicide rather than be subjected to judgement for the crimes committed on his orders. His wife, Eva Braun, chose to commit suicide as well (it is stipulated in his will that he had no part in her choice).
Simply put, Hitler killed himself because he was distraught at failure, afraid of capture, and insane from his disease. There is insubstantial evidence to suggest he killed his wife.
