Why did Hitler declare war on the United States?

Thanks Essay # 47 Why Hitler declared war on the United States Hitler declared war on the United States for several reasons. In 1938, Germany was able to stabilize their economy, making the country much stronger and more powerful. In the same year, Hitler also took over Austria and the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia. He also signed a nonaggression pact with Russia. As Hitler became more and more powerful, the United States was still isolationist, and did nothing to stop Hitler and his quest for domination over the world. Then, in the year of 1940, German troops took over Normandy, Belgium, France, Denmark, and the Netherlands. Hitler also forced France to sign a peace agreement, and was able to make them do what he wanted. This placed Hitler at the top of his career, and was in command of pretty much most of the world. Because Hitler was so powerful now, he started to show how hateful he was of the Jews, and started his "New Order" in Europe, which pretty much declared that all Jews must be killed. Many Jews were either killed by slave labor, gas chambers, firing squads, starvation, or concentration camps. Then, the following year, in 1941, Hitler started an operation called "Operation Barbarossa". This operation was meant for the attack on Russia, which became unsuccessful after the Red Army pushed Hitler back. During this time, Japan, which Germany had a nonaggression pact with, bombed Pearl Harbor. When Hitler was this, he knew that the United States were going to do something, so right after the United States declared war on Japan, Germany declared war on the United States. Hitler decided to declare war on the United States during this time, because he thought that if America was in a war with Japan already, which he had a pact with, then maybe he could try and defeat the United States by getting help from Japan. This did not work however, because right after the Allies took over North Africa from Mussolini, Hitler was weakened and began to lose lost of ground. After most of Hitler's supported countries dropped out, Germany was no longer able to stand and so Hitler admitted defeat.

Hitler's Germany declared war on the United States on Dec. 11. 1941 after the U.S. declared war on Japan 3 days earlier in response to that nation's attack on Pearl Harbor. Germany brought about the declaration of war to honor the Tripartite Pact it had signed with Japan and Italy on Sept. 27, 1940 in Berlin. Article 3 of the Tripartite Pact stated,"Japan, Germany, and Italy agree to cooperate in their efforts on aforesaid lines. It is highly unlikely that Roosevelt would have asked or the Congress would have approved a Declaration of War. US isolationist sentiment, a carry-over from WW1, still feared participation in another European War. More pragmatically, declaration of war on Germany would have meant a two-front war and stretched already thin resources. By not declaring war on Germany the US could have concentrated its scarce resources on a one-front war against Japan. Hitler declared war on the US because in his view 1) the US was militarily impotent and irrelevant. The US Army was the 16th largest in the world--smaller than Belgium's army, but larger that Portugal's. Furthermore, any ability to bring US Military or industrial strength to bear would take years to mobilize. As such, the US was irrelevant. The US represented no risk/threat to Germany. Hitler had nothing to lose-or fear- by declaring war on the US. He did have something to gain. 2) Hitler hoped that by declaring war on Japan's enemy (the US) that Japan would in turn, declare war on the US. Thus, forcing the Russians to fight a two front war and drawing off Russian forces on eastern front by keeping sizable Russian forces locked up in Siberia/Asia. Hitler claimed he declared war on Britain to satisfy his fellow leaders. He claimed he did not want to fight with the Brits. Later he decided they did not have a pure Aryan race. (I know it sounds crazy but he viewed nations by their racial purity.)
