The Irish Left Ireland Because of The Irish Potato Famine in the 1840s. In other periods of Irish history people have left due to war or poverty or to seek a better life or because of economic problems.
Irish people left because there were a disease that spread and caused many crops to wither. most of all the potatoes rotted and many people starved to death. that's why they left... but when they were on boats to come to Canada, many people died there too because of oil spills. a surprising thing is, some people died when they just arrived to Canada.
Actually this is the closest to the answer i can get... There was a potato rot in 1845 which pushed people to the edge of starvation. So people couldve left because of famine.

because people actually were starving and dieing from the massive potato famine.
the potato famine was a blight that was destructive only because of the monoculture (no variety of species) of potatoes.
The first wave of Immigration back in the 18th. century was due to poverty and hunger, the potato famine was a big factor also. Later immigrations were due to the Irish looking for better paying jobs as the Irish economy was, until it joined the EU, very bad. Now Ireland is booming and immigrants from other countries are going to Ireland to live. Ireland is one of the sucess stories of the European Union.
The Irish Potato Famine from 1845 to 1851 resulted in the emigration of about 1.5 million people from Ireland to North America, Great Britain, and Australia. Potatoes were the most important food to the Irish people, and more than a million deaths from starvation and malnutrition occured during the several years that a blight ruined their potato crop.
