South Korea is a country because at one point both North and South Korea were once Korea. The Korean war (1950-1953) resulted in the split. They both signed a treaty but they have major defences set up at the border. It is nearly impossible to escape from North to South (South- North) Korea. Out of what I know only one person has managed to escape to South Korea, a few has escaped from North Korea… Read More

The Korean War began when North Korea invaded South… Read More

North Korea. China likes it this way, which is why they prop up North Korea as a communist buffer state between themselves and U.S.-backed South Korea.
No South Korea didn't envade North Korea. South and North splid up because of the alliance between North America and Russia was not good. North Korea is the one who attacks first all the time. Why isn't Vietnam and Korea called Vietnams and Koreas when America is called Americas. When they all are split up into a north and a south part?
IMHO.. Its because both Korea and Vietnam have a long history of being one united country before being split into two (the same reason why nobody called Ireland the Ireland's just because its split into the north and the republic). In contrast the Americas have never been one unified country and have a wide range of cultures, ethnic groups and nation states in them.
North Korea focus on haing a strong military to become the most powerful and eat up all the other countries whereas South Korea believe that it is about being generous, having friendships with other countries and teamwork to be the most powerful.
In the past. yes. As two countries were both separated into two parts. After 1945, during World War II, The Allies released superior naval power toward Japan, and forced it to give up its territories, including Korea. Korea then became a joint occupation by Russia and the US - the north belonging to Russia and the South to the US, divided by the 38th parallel. Eventually, the U.N. assembled elections in both the north and south, and South Korea became democratic and North Korea became communist.
The only language of North Korea is Korean.
Sort of like Kentucky up north, Atlanta down south.
North Korea. South Korea was allied with the US (they were a democracy), and they teamed up to fight the Communists (North Korea). In the end North Korea still won and that's why its is till one of the few dictatorships/communist countries in the world today.
