Why did Mariano Jose de Larra turn to journalism?
My impression is that Senior de Larra turned to journalism because he was something of a rebel. He married someone of whom his family did not approve, thus outcasting him from their not inconsiderable monies and possibly less considerable graces. He initially tried more than a few occupations, was unhappy with and discarded them, and settled a bit uneasily into the journalistic profession. It seems he would have liked to augment his journalism with writing he thought more serious, such as the authoring of plays and novels, and his lack of success with these probably worried or depressed him--But that is enough for the here and now.
