it moved because Great Britain at that time had Canada and Detroit was close to Canada and easy to capture so they moved it to Lansing which is in the middle of the state. also Lansing was becoming more popular

∙ 13y agoLansing became Michigan's capitol in 1847. Detroit was still in a precarious position across the river from Canada, then British-controlled. Britain still not being completely trusted - the mid-state location of Lansing made it a "safer" venue for the capitol.
