When did Queen Isabella agree to finance Christopher's Columbus's westward voyage to Asia?

Funny I learned this in school a few weeks ago. It was actually her and the king who approved his voyage. They first said no. Columbus asked again soon later. They said yes because they lost a lot of money (I forgot how) and thought he and other voyagers with him would find a lot of gold in their travels.

How was Columbus able to afford the expensive westward voyage to the indes?

He got the money from the king and queen of Spain. First he had tried to get it from the king of Portugal but he was refused because that king's scientists had gone over Columbus' calculations and decided (correctly, as it turned out) that the calculations were wrong and that Columbus would never find the Indies where he thought they were. All historians today agree that his discovery of America was pure luck.

Why did the king and queen of Spain agree to sponsor the expeditions of Christopher Columbus?

Probably in the hope of gaining more overseas territory for Spain. Also for the rumoured riches that Columbus would bring back.

Why did Spain agree to pay for Columbus's voyage?

Well they didn't actually fund him, the queen gave him her diamonds so he could sell them and fund himself. What the Spanish kings did was authorize him and gave him the title of governor of any territories he found. They did this because any findings would be of Spanish property and that meant that the Spanish kingdom could expand its lands and of course, find a new trade route to the east.

What year did Queen Isabella agree to Christopher?

Yes, they did, upon the second time he went to them saying the world is round. He said that if he sailed west, he would find India and China much faster than going east. All the other major sea-going countries (France, Britain, Portugal) had all said no, so he went back to Spain.
