One item was that there was no more land in Europe. What there was had already been claimed. The property was being passed down to the oldest sons, leaving any other sons with no real source of income, other than to work for their brothers or other farmers. Coming to the new world allowed them to own their own property and be their own bosses.

The Pennsylvania Dutch included a large number of Hessian Mercenaries that deserted their units before they went back to Europe for that reason.

Others were moving out of the more heavily settled areas of New England, in some cases moving away from religious oppression.
People wanted to go to Pennsylvania to practice their religion- The Quakers.
