Yes, van Gogh did paint 'Starry Night', infact it is one of his most famous paintings. He painted it because after his right ear lobe was cut off, he had to stay in a sanitarium room. He then say the beautiful night sky of Saint-Remy, France, but painted it by memory during the day.

There are a number of paintings and other works of art entitled "Starry Night," including two such paintings by Vincent van Gogh.

"Starry Night Over the Rhône" was painted by van Gogh in 1888 and is currently housed in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

"Starry Night" was painted by van Gogh in 1899 and is currently housed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
