Stone was a readily available and durable material. As this was to be the Pharaoh's resting place for eternity it was important that the pyramid should be built to last.

In not so good times especially in the middle and new kingdoms the pharaoh had to make do with a pyramid made from mud bricks. This is not so durable and those pyramids tended to collapse after a relatively short time.

Where did the workers find the stone that built the pyramids?

The stone that was used to build the pyramids, particularly the Great Pyramid of Giza, was quarried from nearby sources. The limestone came from quarries along the Nile River, mainly on the east bank, while the granite used for certain parts of the pyramids came from Aswan, located further south. Workers would transport the stone using boats and sledges, taking advantage of the river's proximity to the construction sites.
