The Colonists believed that British rule threatened their liberty when the British started sending troops over to the New World to locate and capture the people that were protesting British taxation. The last straw before the Revolutionary War was when the King of England refused to read a petition to solve the problems.

The British monarchy saw the new colonies as a cash register. They taxed the colonists, but provided no services, infrastructure, etc. 'No taxation without representation!'
