Jeans are made of one of the toughest fabric that can be found, fabric that is tougher than that found in sweat pants, slacks or dress pants. Though jeans are not the toughest material in the world (they're pathetic next to Kevlar), they are durable and wear much better than any other fabric when working in the saddle and with livestock. Jeans are also just a part of the cowboy/cowgirl protocol when trying to even look like a cowboy or cowgirl. It's also protocol when working around and riding horses, provided they fit snug and are not super baggy like some punk gangster or hip-type people wear.
