Rationing, The OPA, constant encouragement to people to buy bonds with there disposable income, and cracking down on black markets wherever they were found are the primary ways the government controlled the economy during World War II. In retrospect, they government did a very good job of it, and the economy stayed strong and stable all the way through the war.
