Inuyasha picks Kagome over Kikyo because Kagome is kind and he cares too much about her. And if you read the manga, you know that Kikyo dies so she has no choice but to pick kagome. Kagome also never gave up on Inuyasha and you will notice that Kagome had many romance moments with Inuyasha.
