The reason was to get rid of non-Muslim elements of Ottoman empire (therefore Armenians, alongside Pontic Greeks and Assyrians, were massacred or deported to their deaths in the Syrian desert).

∙ 8y agoThe Young Turks wanted to create a singular national Turkish identity based on a singular Turkish ethnicity. The Armenians were the most powerful group of Non-Turkish people in the Ottoman Empire. They had to be removed.
