The reason for the fight was the conflict of land of the Fort Sumter between the Union and the Confederate States of America. The conflict soon turned into a full-fledged battle when both of the sides refused to give up Fort Sumter and despite of the strength of the Union army in terms of supplies and the number of soldiers, it was the Confederate army that won the first battle of the American Civil War poop at Fort Sumter.

this still doesnt explain why the battle happend the battle happend because the confederate states wanteed the north military out of tjher "country"

The attack on Fort Sumter resulted in the Union entering the Civil War, the fort belonged to the Union and was attacked by the Confederacy. Up until then both sides were technically at peace, although Lincoln wanted to piece the union back together he didn't have the legal right to start a war, the confederacy struck first thus giving the Union justification to enter the war. There were many background causes for the war, but this event triggered an actual physical war.

Great efforts were made to avoid an armed conflict between the North and South. Politicians from both sides exerted efforts to resolve the conflicts between the North & the South. The problems were enormous and included :

A. Slavery;

B. Economic competition ; and

C. The divisive tariff issue.

South Carolina, in their view, had endured an affront to their sovereignty by "foreign" forces, meaning the Union army, on their soil since December 20, 1860 when the state seceded from the United States and then joined the Confederate States of America.

The Charleston harbor was an important one. In order to secure this Union fort for the South, the fort was bombarded with canon & mortar fire until it finally surrendered.

In summary, Fort Sumter had to be taken over by the South as one of many steps required to establish a new nation, the Confederacy.

Because Fort Sumpter was a federal fort that the South Carolinians believed was on their state property. Keep in mind, the Confederates claimed all territory previously owned by the Federal Government of the United States of America as part of the newly created Confederate States of America.
