Its probably a combination of the war seeming lost for Germany, and Hitler's blind racism which was not the his most welcome virtue by the Military.
Actually Hitler was on very heavy medication, that just made his crack pot Doctor indispensable, instead of having a health effect. This medication along with Hitler's mentality made him increasingly drift away from reality.
At some point it was obvious to many in the German Military, that Hitler's decisions and orders are far apart from reality, and are leading Germany to a complete defeat. Also his close associates were busy making themselves unpopular to the rest of the military for various reasons. Anyone who felt German knew that Hitler's reign could not bring anything positive on the table.
Thus few attempts were made to kill Hitler, and thus stop the complete destruction of Germany, as well as secure a more mild treatment from the Allies by showing Germans were against Hitler. A successful Hitler assassination would signal to the world that not all Germans were Nazi's.

∙ 12y agoSome people believe they wanted to assasinate Hitler to end the war. Hitler was responsible for many things others didn't believe in, so it's natural to want to end the problem at the source.
