US Commanders in Chiefs (US Presidents) Eisenhower, Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, and Ford were all WWII veterans. US Generals Harkins, Westmoreland, Abrams, and Curtis LeMay were all WWII veterans. Vietnam was fought by WWII veterans; US firepower won WWII and US firepower and techniques would win the Vietnam War too! That was how the Vietnam war was fought...to include carpet bombing.

∙ 8y agoThe US bombed Cambodia because Nixon claimed that there were Vietcong and Vietminh troops there. It was also bombed because of its close proximity to South Vietnam, and it was believed that it could be used to supply the enemy.

The USA was not will ing to let them make this self determined choice and decided to support the "right" government regardless of the people's will.This altruistic reason was underlain by the acquisition of resources and markets. Off the coast of Vietnam lies one of the largest oil deposits on Earth. Vietnam is also source of rare earth elements.
