What year did the Zimmerman Telegram come out?

The Zimmerman Telegram "came out" in 1917. It was first sent, in code, on January 16, 1917, and was promptly intercepted and deciphered by the British, who were already fighting the Germans. They showed it to members of the U.S. Embassy in London in the middle of February, and a few days later it was shown to President Woodrow Wilson. The Germans had already resumed their unrestricted submarine attacks on British merchant and passenger ships around February 1, causing many civilian deaths. Some of those who died were American passengers. These deaths, along with the offer made to Mexico in the Zimmerman Telegram to assist them in invading and reclaiming Southwestern States that the U.S. had won from Mexico decades before, finally ended the isolationism and pacifism that had prevailed in the U.S. for the previous part of the war. The Zimmerman Telegram was one of the major factors that caused the U.S. to declare war on Germany on April 6, 1917.

What were four reasons as to why the US entered World War 1?

The first incident that began to change American public support for entry into World War 1 was the sinking of the Lusitania cruise ship in 1915 by a German U-boat. In 1916 two large explosions destroyed two munitions factories and it was immediately blamed on German saboteurs. Finally, in 1917 a message that is now known as the Zimmermann Telegram was intercepted and publicly revealed. It was a message from Germany requesting Mexico to attack the US in return for some of their old territory back, namely Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. All of these events, in addition to the Rape of Belgium at the outbreak of war in 1914, galvanized the people into fully supporting a war against Germany.

What finally provoked America to join World War 1?

The final straw for America when it came to declaring war or not was the Zimmerman Telegram in March of 1917. The telegram was sent by Germany to Mexico to offer assistance for an invasion of the US.

What did Britain do to encourage United States participation in World War 1?

There were unauthorized German submarines along the US East coast. Germany's resumption of unrestricted submarine warfare in the spring of 1917 provided the final straw for US politicians, and America declared war. The first and foremost answer would be the sinking of the Lusitania, an British cruise/transport ship, bound for Britain from New York. The German U-boat ring sought to sink all supply ships headed for Britain in order to starve the island. It sank the Lusitania as part of its efforts. 1195 people died, including 128 Americans.Other points influenced entrance to the war, but the Zimmerman Telegram (sometimes called the "Zimmerman note" or "Zimmerman telegraph") finally pushed the US to war. The Zimmerman Telegram was sent from the German foreign secretary to the German Ambassador to Mexico. Germany proposed an alliance with Mexico on the following basis: If the US goes to war, Mexico must fight on the home front in an financially supported alliance with Germany; If Mexico agrees to fight, they will reconquer New Mexico, Texas and Arizona. The telegraph was intercepted by British Intelligence and transmitted to the American government by the Brits. This infuriated Americans. It was the same sort of alliance that plunged Europe into war.

Why was Zimmermann telegram important in world war 1?

The Zimmerman Telegram was the catalyst that brought the United States into World War I. The Allied nations intercepted a German telegram to Mexico in which Germany promised to support Mexico in a bid to recapture territory it lost to the United States in the previous century (namely, California, Arizona and New Mexico) the Mexicans would go to war with the United States to distract it from joining the War in Europe. Whereas the German policy of unrestricted submarine warfare bothered President Woodrow Wilson more than any foolhardy proposition of Mexico, public fury against the Germans gave Wilson what he needed to finally join the side of the Allies and thus bring the United States into one of the most devastating wars in history.

Why did the US end the policy of neutrality and enter World War 1?

Because when the Lusitania was sunk with 200 Americans on board, President Wilson finally declared war on Germany. The Zimmerman note was also a reason the USA. went to war.

What was the process of Mexico to finally decide say no to Germany?

Mexican President Venustiano Carranza ordered a discrete assessment to find out if the plan was feasible to implement; it wasn't due to the economic and political situation at the time (i.e: the United States was the only country with a sizable arms industry in the Americas, and the sea lanes were closed at the time so Germany couldn't provide any troops, arms or equipment). Before President Carranza would respond, the Zimmerman telegram was intercepted and its contents published in the American media, prompting president Wilson to declare war on Germany on April 6, 1917. President Carranza formally declined the proposal on April 18, 1917.

What was published in American newspapers that finally pushed the US into world war 1?

The Zimmermann Telegram. Germany's foreign minister Arthur Zimmermann tried to secretly convince Mexico to join World War I as a German ally- Germany knew the US was angry about Germany's submarines, and expected an American entry in the war on the side of the Allies. They hoped Mexico would join on the side of the Central Powers and be a distraction so the US couldn't easily send troops to Europe. British spies intercepted the telegram and gave a copy to the US government. The president was furious and shortly thereafter, the US declared war. Within a year, the US was sending large numbers of troops to France, contributing to Germany's surrender a few months later. Ironically, Mexico did get the telegram and briefly considered it. They (correctly) decided the plan was unfeasible and refused to accept it.
