Sports are very important. Some people play sports for money and fame, but I think the true meaning is to have fun. Children join teams and make friends, and isn't that just a great thing, to know that you have those friends to trust and to grow up with. You can also enjoy sports because you know th…at you are getting exercise and it feels amazing to have muscles, doesn't it? Exercise is key to a healthy life style and I think more people should realize that, even though it kills to go outside and sweat, it will pay off in the long run, so if you just take the chance, you will be proud of your work. I have wondered this myself. Sports are only important in one way. That is the entertainment industry. Think about it, sports only are given pride and entertainment for people to see. That is the only reason sports are important. Sure they may be ways to get yourself exercised, but you can do that b…y yourself. Maybe they are a way to kill time. That is true, but when the athlete does not get accepted, then what happens? They work for the ones that did not do sports in school. ( Full Answer )

TheGreeks believed that a healthy body was very important. Most menand boys practised sports every day because they enjoyed them andwanted to… keep fit. Sport was a good preparation for war too. TheGreek armies had to be fit enough to march long distances, carryingall their heavy equipment, and then begin the fight with theenemy. I believe the Greeks embraced the abilities of man and aspired tothe abilities of gods. The challenge and breaking or building a manbrought them closer as a people to their beliefs in supremebeings--as if proof of being a worthy people. Sport was important to them because they believed that it builtcharacter and gave them a healthy body as someone else has statedabove!! ( Full Answer )

A lot of Greeks thought it best to appraise Ares because of the fact that he was a god of war. The greeks thought that by appraising him and tributing things to him that their wars would be in their favor.
she was the goddess of the hunt, so they thought without praying and offering to her, they would not get lucky on hunting expeditions
As one of Europe's early major civilizations, much of what we are today came from them. They are the basis of the idea of Democracy, established the the Olympic Games, created the basic forms the Roman alphabet is based on, gave us innumerable mathematic advances (including the pythagorean theorum, …and Archmedes' Screw), not to mention creating the zodiac and constellations we use in Western Civilization. The Greeks were the foundation of Roman society. They perfected the columnade, the arch and arcade, and were responsible for 5 of the 7 wonders of the world (specifically, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, The statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria). It should also be noted that most medical terminology is either greek or latin (cardiac, pulmonary, rhinoplasty, laryngitis, Optometry, etc). Without the Greeks there would be no Romeo and Juliet, no winged sandals and no Nike. ( Full Answer )

The Greeks would probably think their gods did the same sports as they did. Other gods would have their own sports they govern. For example: Artemis was the goddess of the Hunt so her sport was hunting and archery.
They mainly competed in foot races but eventually there was boxing, wrestling, pankration (similar to today's mixed martial arts), chariot racing and a pentathlon consisting of wrestling, stadion, long jump, discus throw and javelin throw.
Sporting events have been a major part of most cultures in the world, from the ancient Egyptians and Romans, right up to today's sporting events such as the World Series and Super Bowl. The Olympics, a showcase of ancient Greek sports that started thousands of years ago, is still held every four yea…rs - a testament to the strength of the Greeks' love of sport and competition. Without these ancient Greek sports, the world of athletics would be much different than it is today. The first Olympic games (known as the ancient Olympic games) started somewhere around 776 BC and were continued until about the year 393 AD - comprising 292 sets of ancient Olympic games. The exact start of these games, traditionally held in Olympia, Greece, is unknown; there are many different theories and myths that try to explain their beginnings, but no definitive answer. The most famous myth involves Heracles, who won a race at Olympia and then sent out a decree saying that the race should be re-enacted once every four years. Of course, the ancient Greek sports featured at the early Olympic games were much more than just races; although at first that was the only event. The 190-meter long stadion race was the event run every four years at first, and it is the word from which the name "stadium" is derived. Additionally, at this time, the Greeks introduced the concept of nudity in their athletics, which was said to honor the Spartans. After a while, other sports were added to the Olympic games, such as boxing and wrestling, along with the famous pentathlonBoxing as one of the ancient Greek sports was much more intense and brutal than today's sport. Originally fought with either bare or thinly wrapped hands, boxing evolved into being performed with gloves weighted with metal. This sport, along with the others which included chariot races and pankration which was similar to martial arts, was practiced nude. Contestants wore no clothing (there is some debate as to whether there were genital supports, as all participants were male) and even oiled themselves to look better. The Olympics have come a long way from their ancient beginnings; women now compete, as do men from all over the world. The sports involved have changed, and the competitions are completed fully clothed. However, much of the feel and ideals of the original Olympic games remains - a testament to ancient Greek sports. .factsmonk.com/ancient_greek_sports © 2005-2010 FactsMonk.com ( Full Answer )

It was their religion. It was important to them the same way yours is important to you (assuming you follow one). Religion created a moral expectation for people to follow, and offers hope to people that their just actions in life will be rewarded in some way. Additionally it offers explanation for …things that they could not otherwise understand. This is the role of religion in society. ( Full Answer )
