The early Spanish colonists managed to kill off huge numbers of Caribbean Native Americans through disease and by overworking them in mines. Having depleted he native populations, and needing a source of inexpensive labor, they turned to Africa and developed the slave trade.
The majority of African slaves went to the Americas because that's where they were deported to. They didn't get a choice or anything, that's just where there happened to be the largest demand for them. There are probably an equal number of coloured men and women in America and Europe.
They were slaved and that was the time of the middle passage. Africans were treated so unfairly that they gave them no food and they were locked up in the boat. Many of them died of sickness, starvation and disease.
The reason African Americans were initially captured and bought to labour in America was the Americans had seen many other colonisers partake in the activity and subsequently saw a chance to increase their wealth. The Americans had previously attempted to enslave Native America but this ended because the Native Americans died in great numbers from the diseases bought over by coloniser's. The slave trade then expanded rapidly due to the boost supplied to the economy. slaves were a cheap way to gain labourers to work on farms in the south and in households in the north.
The first African slaves in America were sold to the Portuguese by other African tribes. They were brought over to work the fields and mines of South America.

The Middle Passage.
England sent settlers to the New World.
Other tribes within Africa. The trade was going of for centuries before the Europeans got involved. The first "slaves: sent to America were for marriage to trappers because of the severe shortages of women in the "new world". They were distributed throughout Canada, and what is now the United States.
Africans were not allowed to work
Slavery expanded when Natives were forced to work for Europeans and Africans were shipped to the New World. This did not happen during the Middle Ages, however; it happened during the Renaissance.
Africans were used as slaves for the Spanish in the new world.
Because other Africans sold them to the Europeans as slaves and the new world colonies needed workers.
work
Europeans forced millions of Africans to work as slaves in the New World. They were captured from various regions of Africa and transported across the Atlantic Ocean to work on plantations, mines, and in other forms of labor in the Americas. This brutal and exploitative system of slavery played a significant role in the economic development of European colonies in the New World.
It was a terrible thing called the slave trade. Africans were stolen from their families by other Africans, who then marched them to the cost and sold them to European slave traders. The Europeans loaded the slaves on to ships and sent them off to the New World.
To work. Due to the Great Dying there was a very small indigenous population, especially in the Caribbean, which is where most New World plantations were located. Most common plantations in the New World were sugar plantations.
