They chose to live at the mission because the missionaries had promised them if they went to the mission and they helped build the mission they would give them the food they needed (not really according to the American Indians) and the clothes

Native American people never chose to live in missions. They were forced/required to live on the reservations/missions and in locations assigned by the government/authority in current control, just to leave the land available for the settlers/exploiters to inhabit for the gain of the currently existing/controlling government/authority. Most were forced onto inhospitable/unproductive land that was NOT part of their traditional lands/areas where they were unable to live their previously enjoyed lifestyle/heritage.
