The owners of the Canadian Pacific Railway were money oriented. The Chinese were brought from China as cheap labour. The same thing happens now with Chinese factories, except now we are sending out, instead of bringing in.

Pretty much, the Chinese were willing to work for next to nothing, and the Canadians wanted real money. So they brought in the Chinese.
