Because the climate was too hot for them after the ice age meaning that all the stuff they used to feed on died effecting the sabertooth tiger and killing them because they have nothing to eat.
Basically, they were built for the Ice Age. Their huge teeth and claws enabled them to become fierce predators and take animals down easily. They had a coat of fur that kept them warm enough not to freeze. And they were very stealthy hunters.
They actually never met, and in fact the Dinosaurssurvived longer than the saber-teeth, and the dinosaurs' direct descendants, the birds, survived-they even outnumber mammals.
Dinosaurs survived by eating other dinosaurs or plants.
