Imagine that a mansion full of luxury disappear in the ocean, well this was even bigger than a mansion, and the things it contained were extremely expensive. For example, the famous stairs of the main hall.
A lot of the most rich people were in that trip, a lot of people died. They just freeze in the water. They didn't have any way to survive.
Since the Titanic was supposedly "unsinkable", there weren't enough lifeboats on board. Also, the rich people went into the lifeboats first, so the space wasn't maximized
I have two points to make here. R.M.S. Titanic was NEVER marketed as unsinkable. It was merely rumour around the ship builders yard that lead to this common misconception.
Secondly, I feel it important to say that although there were not enough lifeboats on board for all passengers and crew, there were more than the regulations of the time stated there must be, and more per head than any other vessel of the time.
: the lifeboats could have carried many more people. In addition, some people didn't believe the Titanic was actually sinking, so they just stayed aboard and hung out.
It hit an iceburg and sank. There were so many people on it.

They did not expect the Titanic to sink. They did not expect the Titanic to hit an iceberg either. There were lifeboats and life jackets for a minor emergency, but not a major one.
Titanic sank in 1912. An iceberg caused it to sink in the Atlantic Ocean carrying 2,200 souls on board.
There were 1,496 victims in the sea when Titanic sunk.
