Why did the US intervien in the Korean war when they didnt in china?

In 1949, at the end of the Chinese Civil War, millions (like 99%) of Chinese people believed in Communism/Socialism and Maoism (Which are pretty much the same thing). Everyone basically 'worshiped' Mao Zedong. At that point, when Mao won the war, the US refused to recognize the Communism China as a country. That worsen the US<>China relation. Even if the US intervened with the communism in China, it would have not helped. Mao Zedong was a genius, in charismatic skills, political/government control skills and being one of the most influential people in the world. The only effect if US did intervened would be war. The Cold War, happened recently after WWII. The US couldn't risk a war after being healed from a great war.

The Koreans affair, was different. In that scenario, there's at least a fighting chance, in China, everyone already believed in communism. There's at least the South Koreans to fight against the Communism North Korea. Hope that answered your question!

It's highly likely that they had some kind of interest in interveining between the Koreans instead of the Chinese. It's always like that. They don't care unless it's positive for them.
