Which one? The Soviets invaded in 1979, and the country's pretty much seen constant fighting ever since.

As for the current war in Afghanistan, the al-Qaeda branch based in Afghanistan attacked the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, killing almost 3000 people. The Taliban supported al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, so the US responded by attacking the Taliban. The Americans had the support of the Northern Alliance, the internationally recognized government of Afghanistan at the time. The Northern Alliance would only support the operation if the US promised to stay and restore order after the Taliban had been ousted.

The start was their view of us:

The ideology of the enemy is the root of the problem and the start of the war; what they believe the Quran teaches is the reason they attacked us. (They consider their ideology to be an unadulterated interpretation.) Here is an excerpt from the teachings of Muhammad: Quran on page 117: "In the world there is only one party of God: all others are parties of Satan and rebellion. Those who believe fight in the cause of God, and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of rebellion. Then fight the allies of Satan..." There are universities today in the United States where they teach from the book titled "Milestones", written by Sayyid Qutb; (the author being an inspiring figure to the notorious Osama Bin Ladin). This book is used today to inspire and educate those who follow the unadulterated view of Islam. Some of those who were inspired by this book are Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Haqqani Network, and others with the same ideology. The places where this ideology is being taught in the United States are widely ignored by the FBI and others who need to better educate themselves when it comes to the foundations of Islam and the teachings within the book "Milestones." (People are far too quick to stand in the defense of something they are ignorant of, just like they are always quick to judge that which they don't understand; study Islam then have an opinion on Islam, and recognize the difference between an ideology and a doctrine.)

Check out an article titled "The Origin of Our Threat & the Danger of Their Ideology" if you want all the answers, to all your questions regarding the start of terrorism in the Middle East.

It started when the group Taliban attacked Twin Towers, in New York City.

The Americans found out that it was Taliban that was responsible for the attack.

So they bombed Afghanistan, because Taliban ruled the country.

Osama Ben Laden, living in Afghanistan, sent terrorists to attack the USA on September 11, 2001. After 9/11, the USA demanded that Afghanistan turn Laden over to the USA to stand trial. Afghanistan (who supports Laden) refused to turn him over, so the USA went in to get him.
